Education Begins at Home

Children who read at home are more likely to succeed in school and in life. This statement was brought to life recently when Nal’ibali hosted a graduation ceremony for caregivers from Danielskuil, Postmasburg, Groenwater, Jenn Haven, and Skeyfontein. These parents and caregivers completed Nal’ibali’s training programme, learning practical ways to support their children’s literacy and cultivate a love of reading at home.

The event’s highlight was a group of elders from Groenwater, Rethuseng old aged club, who also graduated. Their journey does not end here, motivated and inspired; they have formed their own reading club and continue to receive guidance from the Nal’ibali team, showing that learning truly has no age limit.

Supporting children at home is just as important as the work done in schools. When parents and caregivers take an active role in reading with their children, helping with homework, and encouraging curiosity, it reinforces what learners are taught in the classroom. This combined effort creates a consistent learning environment that builds confidence, improves academic performance, and helps children reach their full potential.

This graduation also underscored the importance of collaboration. The work of the Lesedi Solar Park Trust relies on the community supporting the various initiatives we undertake. This graduation is part of the enabling integrated human development area of our work.

When families, schools, and organisations like Nal’ibali work together, these interventions have a greater impact, helping learners succeed and building stronger, more vibrant communities.
