Planting the Seeds of Change Through Storytelling

In South Africa today, four out of five children in Grade Four cannot read for meaning. This crisis in literacy calls for urgent action, and Nal’ibali has stepped forward by celebrating the power of stories through the Seeds of Change book series.

Last year, Nal’ibali launched the first edition of Seeds of Change, a collection of short stories and poems written by children from our local primary schools in Groenwater, Skeyfontein, Jenn Haven, Danielskuil, and Postmasburg. The book gave learners the chance to showcase their creativity and imagination while building confidence in their own voices as writers.

Building on this success, Nal’ibali recently launched the second edition of Seeds of Change, featuring even more stories and poems from children across these communities. This second edition highlights the growing enthusiasm for storytelling among young learners and continues to shine a light on the importance of literacy in our schools.

Both launches were well supported by parents, principals, and teachers, showing the strength of community collaboration in creating opportunities for children to thrive. By celebrating the voices of learners, Seeds of Change reminds us that with the right encouragement and resources, our children can rise above the current literacy challenges and shape brighter futures for themselves.

The Lesedi Solar Park Trust is proud to support Nal’ibali’s efforts in planting the seeds of imagination, creativity, and change in the lives of children.
