It Starts With Us

When we began this trauma informed journey, our goal was clear: to avoid re-traumatising the communities we work in, and to ensure that every investment we make is careful, sensitive, and rooted in the realities of the communities. That is the shift we hope to see.
At the beginning of this quarter, we commissioned the Center for Mental Wellness and Leadership to facilitate training for our implementing partners, community-based organisations, and the board members of those organisations. These sessions did more than prepare our partners to serve their communities. They created safe spaces for people to become aware of their own realities, and how this work begins with them as individuals and practitioners as foundations for impact.
As investors, we also recognise our own place in these cycles and what it takes for a true shift to take place, and the value of trauma informed practices.
Already, this shift in thinking is rippling through our ecosystem. Partners and the Trust are revisiting their approaches, recognising that how we work is just as important as what we do.
By embedding trauma informed practices across every level, from partners and community organisations to our own team and board, we are laying the groundwork for deeper, more sustainable impact. As we continue this journey, our hope is that every interaction, programme, and partnership reflects greater care, empathy, and responsibility. Because lasting change in our communities can only happen when we are also willing to change.
