2024 Annual Report: A Year of Community Action and Lasting Impact
Postmasburg – The Lesedi Solar Park Community Trust has officially launched its 2024 Annual Report, capturing a year of inspiring local action, bold partnerships, and deepening community ownership across the Trust’s focus communities.
The report showcases the remarkable efforts of residents, community leaders, implementing partners and local organisations to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and drive lasting change in Postmasburg, Danielskuil, Jenn-Haven, Groenwater, Skeyfontein and Lime Acres.
“As a Trust, we prioritise engaging communities in a meaningful way, ensuring that they both participate in and benefit from the development process,” said Trustee Janet du Preez.
Driving Collective Action Across Four Pillars
The report highlights progress under the Trust’s 2023–2027 five-year strategy, built around four key pillars:
- Cultivating Community Engagement and Ownership
- Support to six local CBOs serving over 6,500 residents, across psychosocial support, substance abuse prevention, elderly care, and youth leadership.
- Young leaders trained through the Activate! Change Drivers programme, with four now employed in rights-based advocacy roles.
- Local spaces improved, including a revitalised Boichoko Library and upgraded exam room at Kuilsville High School.
- Implementing Integrated Human Development Programmes
- Over 1,400 children attending early learning playgroups and literacy programmes.
- 692 pregnant women and mothers supported through maternal health and nutrition programmes.
- Literacy and numeracy acceleration for primary learners through Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL).
- High school interventions, post-school readiness, and tertiary support for 315 learners.
- Creating Opportunities for Economic Participation
- Expansion of small-scale food gardens through local CBOs and community members, fostering both subsistence and income-generating opportunities.
- Over 29 community members trained in permaculture methods and market gardening.
- Three micro-enterprises supported and equipped through entrepreneurship training.
- Fostering Safe and Enabling Environments
- Community members and professionals trained in substance abuse prevention and intervention.
- The establishment of the Alcohol Safer ZFM coalition that consists of different CBOs across ZF Mgcawu District work together in educating the community on the laws around alcohol and substances and the risks of substance abuse.
Stories of Impact
Throughout the report, local voices shine; from Olga Freeman, whose home-based ECD and garden now nourish young minds and bodies; to Junior-John Thomas, who went from REAP learner to REAP staff member; to Valentine Serati, a youth leader now employed in rights-based advocacy.
Each story reinforces the central message of the report: when communities lead change, real and lasting impact happens.
Looking Ahead
As the Trust moves forward, it will continue to focus on deepening partnerships, fostering shared ownership, and facilitating collective action to achieve bold outcomes in education, livelihoods, and community wellbeing.
“Our communities are hopeful, vibrant, and co-creating solutions to end intergenerational poverty and systemic exclusion,” said Trustee Brongene Cloete.
