SCORE’s 3-Day Workshop

This week, the SCORE team hosted a 3-day workshop for their coaches in Danielskuil, aimed at enhancing their skills and equipping them with the necessary tools to effectively lead and develop their communities through sport. SCORE, an international non-profit organisation focused on community development through sports and recreation, continues to make strides in empowering coaches who play a crucial role in shaping young athletes and fostering social cohesion.
The workshop offered both theoretical and practical components, ensuring that coaches could not only understand the principles behind effective coaching but also apply them in coaching sessions. The theoretical section of the workshop delved into topics such as SCORE’s core values, the fundamental role of a coach, coaching behaviours and ethics, as well as coaching principles. Coaches were also taught how to research, plan, and structure effective coaching sessions, ensuring they are prepared to handle any challenge that comes their way.
In the practical section, coaches had the opportunity to put their enhanced knowledge to the test by planning and executing practice sessions with their fellow coaches. This hands-on experience allowed them to refine their skills and enhance their ability to deliver engaging, effective training sessions. Sporting codes such as volleyball, jumping rope, setting and serving (volleyball), trap, pass & dribble, and tackling were incorporated into the practice sessions, allowing coaches to get creative while applying their theoretical understanding.
Through the support of the Lesedi Solar Park Trust, SCORE’s coaches are already making an impact at several schools in Danielskuil and Postmasburg. These schools include Danielskuil Intermediate, Die Kuil Primary, Kuilsville Secondary, HTT Bidi Memorial, Ratang Thuto Secondary, and Assmang Primary. By equipping local coaches with the right tools, SCORE is fostering a culture of active participation, teamwork, and leadership, giving youth the opportunity to grow and develop both on and off the field.
The workshop has not only enhanced the technical coaching abilities of the participants but also reinforced the values of leadership and community engagement that are at the heart of SCORE’s mission.
