Refentse Primary School in partnership with the National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW) and the Lesedi Solar Park Trust invites applications for a school-based child and youth care worker post in Groenwater in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be deployed in Refentse Primary school to implement the Isibindi Ezikoleni project.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- Qualification in FETC: CYCW (Level 4 qualification in Child and Youth Care Work) or above, OR in training for a Level 5 Child and Youth Care Work qualification.
- Registration with the SACSSP or proof of attempts to register.
- Police clearance certificate and clearance against the Child Protection Register (or proof of attempt to obtain these clearances).
- Must be willing and able to work flexible working hours. This is a full-time position and requires flexible working hours while still adhering to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act in terms of daily and weekly rest periods. Flexible working hours include working after school hours, weekends, public holidays and school holidays.
- Preference will be given to applicants who live within the Lesedi Trust catchment area; however qualified CYCWs from outside the catchment area, who are prepared to relocate can apply and will be positively considered.
- Prior involvement in community child and youth care work will be advantageous.
- Community involvement – written recommendation of good standing from a community leader e.g. Councilor or Pastor, etc.
- Strong ability to communicate with children effectively and to adapt to their needs.
- Strong family and other support systems to allow flexible work during evening and weekends.
- Competency in English, and local languages.

Responsibilities:
- Deliver a core package of whole-school, group and individual school-based child and youth care services according to the procedures and standards in the Isibindi Ezikoleni Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assess specific needs of identified learners at risk, develop an individual development plan for each learner and provide relevant support individual and group-based support, services and referrals as needed.
- Undertake home visits and/or other engagement with parents and caregivers where the assessment indicates that this is appropriate.
- Report cases of suspected abuse, neglect and other child protection issues to the relevant stakeholders and follow-up on all cases referred to ensure that they have been attended to.
- Facilitate structured development programmes.
- Support Life Orientation teachers in the delivery of the life orientation curriculum.
- Facilitate homework supervision sessions and peer support groups.
- Facilitate school-based holiday programmes, providing both structured and unstructured developmental activities.
- Establish a youth friendly space at the school/school environment with the use of resources such as posters, plants, colour etc.
- Participate in the School Based Support Team and/or other school-based multi-disciplinary team structures.
- Build relationships with government and non-government school stakeholders and maintain partnerships and collaboration.
- Participate in supervision, in-service training, and educational programmes provided by the NACCW Isibindi Ezikoleni mentorship team.
- Complete and submit relevant M&E tools and reports for the Isibindi Ezikoleni programme in line with the standard operating procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Salary will be commensurate with child and youth care work qualifications and experience.
Reference checks of qualifications, SACSSP registration police clearance and clearance against the Child Protection Register will be done.
