Laerskool Postdene wins big in logo design competition
Laerskool Postdene learner, Kim de Koker, submitted the winning entry in the Lesedi Solar Park Trust competition
Postmasburg, [17 May 2023] – Laerskool Postdene is proud to announce that one of their talented Grade 7 learners, Kim de Koker, has emerged as the winner of the Lesedi Solar Park Trust logo design competition. Kim’s drawing has been selected as the inspiration for the Trust’s new logo, making her achievement a source of great pride for her school and the Postdene community.
“I was really surprised to hear I won,” said de Koker, who is deputy headgirl of the school. “I’m really happy!”
The Lesedi Solar Park Trust logo design competition aimed to engage and empower young minds in the community, inviting learners to showcase their creativity and artistic abilities. Kim’s submission stood out amongst the numerous entries, earning her the honour of having her design chosen as the foundation for the Trust’s new logo.
“We loved that her design centred on people,” explains Fritz Steenkamp, a trustee of the Trust. “The Lesedi Solar Park Trust is dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty. We felt like Kim’s drawing showed something of the heart of our commitment to social upliftment.”
Elements of Kim’s drawing were extracted by a graphic designer to create the Trust’s new logo.
As a result of Kim’s achievement, Laerskool Postdene has been awarded a prize of R10,000. Mr. Harry Heyns, the school’s deputy principal, expressed his gratitude for the prize and praised Kim for taking the initiative to enter.
“We are immensely proud of Kim’s accomplishment in the Lesedi Solar Park Trust logo design competition,” said Mr. Heyns. “This is a huge honour for our school and her victory will be an inspiration not only to her, but to all our learners. We are so grateful for the prize money – we’re hoping to use it toward minimising the impact of loadshedding on the running of our school.“
In addition to the school’s prize, Kim has been presented with a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, which will enable her to further develop her design skills and explore her artistic talents.
“We hope that the tablet will serve as a valuable tool to nurture Kim’s creative abilities, empowering her to continue making a positive impact in the field of art and design,” said Mr. Steenkamp. “We also hope that every time she sees our new logo, it will bring a smile to her face and remind her of the possibilities that exist when we take initiative.”
Kim’s accomplishment serves as an inspiration to young artists and students, showcasing the power of creativity and determination. The Lesedi Solar Park Trust commends Kim for her achievement and wishes her continued success in her artistic endeavours.
