Supporting Children Through the Tsantsabane Centre of Hope

In the heart of Postmasburg, the Tsantsabane Centre of Hope (TCOH) exists to help
and empower vulnerable children and families. Supported by the Lesedi Solar Park Trust, TCOH exemplifies the Trust’s objective to support local organisations to become more effective at driving developmental change.
Founded by Marilyn Hael, TCOH emerged from a passion to provide a safe haven for abused, neglected, orphaned, and abandoned children. In collaboration with her dedicated team of volunteers, the vision for a temporary shelter and holistic support centre began to take shape. The organisation was officially registered in 2019, driven by a commitment to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.
The Centre’s programs extend beyond basic sheltering. recognising the widespread need for academic support, TCOH expanded its reach to include an after-school tutoring program. Teachers at local schools identify children who would benefit from additional academic assistance, ensuring that no child is left behind due to lack of support at home. The Centre serves children in Grades 4 to 8, providing homework assistance and exam preparation. Life skills programs are offered to equip children with the tools they need to successfully navigate life’s challenges.
The impact of the Centre received a significant boost when the Social Change Assistance Trust (SCAT), funded by the Lesedi Solar Park Trust, began providing vital financial assistance. This support enabled the Centre to transition from relying on volunteers to providing stipends to staff, as well as funding additional programs such as Survivor Live to tell, a gender-based violence initiative, and a feeding scheme for children attending the after-school program.
Growth was further enriched by SCAT training and mentorship initiatives. training in governance provided valuable insights, enabling TCOH to refine its programs, enhance organisational structure, and explore avenues for sustainability. A SCAT mentor works with the Centre offering guidance, support, and accountability to the staff.
Marilyn and her team are always looking for ways to improve their sustainability and impact. This is evidenced in the fact that the Centre has secured both land and containers from other funders which will enable them to expand their facilities, allowing for the accommodation of more children in need.
TCOH exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives supported by the Lesedi Solar park trust. Through strategic investment in local organisations and leadership development programs, the trust continues to empower individuals and communities to lead change.
