Supporting Local CBOs Through SCAT

With funding from the Lesedi Trust, the Social Change Assistance Trust (SCAT) supports six local community-based organisations.

Since 2022, this support has included mentoring and the provision of governance training, equipment, operational funding and enabling them to account for funds. More recently, the CBOs have benefited from training in the Integrated Development Process, facilitation, proposal writing and reporting, campaigning and women in leadership.

The following 6 CBOs are part of this intervention:

Kgatelopele Social Development Forum

KSDF is based in Danielskuil and renders services to orphans and vulnerable children in the community. They employ both child and youth care workers and home based carers focused on caring for the elderly, adults, youth and children’s health in the community. They also offer an advice based office with trained paralegals to assist community members in legal matters. In addition KSDF boasts with a beautiful vegetable garden that provides healthy veggies to the needy in the community.

Agape Community Upliftment Projects

Agape Community Upliftment Projects was established and registered in 2019. They offer after school programs to children in the community of Danielskuil, keeping them off the street and helping them to reach their full potential. The aim is to prevent the following: school drop outs, teenage pregnancies, substance abuse and dread disease, children getting involved in crime, gender based violence, bullying and peer pressure.

Tsantsabane Centre of Hope (TCH)

Tsantsabane Centre of Hope was registered in 2019 and is based in Postmasburg. The centre has a afterschool tutoring programme helping learners with homework and preparation for examinations. They also implement life skills programs in schools. Another one of their programs “Survivor live to tell” is focused on assisting the victims of gender based violence. The centre has a temporary shelter for children in the community.

Tsantsabane Women’s Community Centre

TWCC is based in Postmasburg and focusses on empowering women and youth. They provide services ranging from running a functional day-to-day soup kitchen, offering support systems to women, conducting health talks, organizing after- school programs for children and assisting the youth with job seeking and interview skills.

Tsantsabane Alcohol and Drug Services

TADS is an out-patient treatment centre based in Postmasburg. Since its conception, TADS have delivered specialized services for the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse and the prevention thereof. Besides the treatment and prevention of alcohol and drugs abuse, programs such as empowerment to youth, children living in the street, income generating projects, crisis line and community empowerment are being rendered.

Therapists on Wheels

Therapists on wheels is based in Postmasburg and aims to bring therapeutic services to your doorstep. Their services include prevention and therapeutic services with regards to gender-based violence, trauma and mental health. They also offer services related to human rights.
